Origin Verification in Taiwan
With tariffs on Chinese goods far above those on Taiwanese goods, some suppliers buy finished parts elsewhere and ship them as Made in Taiwan. US Customs holds the importer responsible, and the paperwork will not show it. We go to the factory and check.
The Risk
Certificates of origin, invoices and packing lists are prepared by the supplier. None of them prove where the product was actually made.
01
Goods made in a high-tariff country are routed through Taiwan and relabeled. Bicycles and bicycle parts have been caught this way before, which is why buyers in this industry pay close attention.
02
A real Taiwanese factory makes some of your order, then fills the rest with finished parts bought elsewhere. The factory is genuine, but not every part is.
03
When origin is wrong, the importer of record faces the duties, penalties and delays. Your supplier's paperwork does not protect you.
